New Appropriateness Criteria for Cardiac CT released today
Released online today at the Journal of the American College of Cardiology are updated "appropriateness criteria" for the use of Cardiac CT. The basic premise of this document is that experts in the field of Cardiac CT sit down with all the latest data and rank/vote a variety of reasons why a doctor might order a Cardiac CT. When they tally the votes, the determine if it is appropriate, inappropriate, or uncertain to order the test. In comparison to prior guidelines, there are several more patient populations and indications that are considered appropriate. This document reflects my understanding and perceptions about the current science behind CT and the patient populations in which it is useful.
