Licensed to Practice
I received my Florida medical license last month. One of the first emails I received from the Board was the announcement of the Board's April newsletter/update. I found an interesting statistic in the newsletter, that the rate of wrong site surgeries in Florida for 2010 was 0.0000041. Now, that is clearly not zero, and we all wish it could be, but that seems like an incredibly low number. Lacking from the newsletter is any information on how the Board gathers that info, but I would imagine at some level it involves self-reporting and therefore that number may be artifactually low. That said, it nearly achieves the Six Sigma standard of 0.0000034 errors.
